I can only say that we all go through this sort of thing. I'm going to call it a fair assumption that these companies deal with SMBs, even if they advertise themselves as "enterprise", and their history and experience is in doing the type of deployments you're looking at.
It could be worse.. they could have suggested an Infortrend SAN 
All you can do is get your concerns in writing and go and do the job.
Edit: How exactly is the VM meant to "replicate"? SRM doesn't do this on its own.
