Hi
I want to organise offsite backups.
so i have a 3 node esx cluster (4i) at dc1 and I have 2 other DC. dc2 which is just nfs storage (was /am using cdr and nfs mount, but when it fails it takes forever to recheck and get it all working again !) i have ybo - which is the office, I have an esx 5i server there.
I am trialing using vdp install at ybo and storing to ybo. it backups up all my prod stuff from dc1. I have 100M link.. of course it get saturated ..
but I am thinking it might be better to have the VDP box in dc1 and saving to ybo .. that way all the de dup happens before it touches the wire. But I don't want to be stuck like vdr with 2-3 day integrity checks... Those suck.
My prod storage is equial logic, i am looking at doing equal logic replication.. but that is not for backups, those are stored on qnap boxs. and they use rsync to sync files. I don't think using qnap rsync is the way to go to syncing my VDP data store sounds like it is frought with danger !
so i am wondering what others are doing .... I did start to look at veem, but the cost for our size ....
I did start to look at the vmware storage appliance, but it sounds like a dog
