workaround to use custom fields in rules?

Hi, I'm quite new in developing workflows in VSM. I was recently given the task to develop a new workflow and I have spent the last few days reading some of the manuals and trying them but to no avail. Anyway, I would like to ask for a workaround in using a custom field in a conditional branching task rule.

The previous developers created a custom QD fields (Person type) in the Person Details screen. Now in the request I will be making, I need to use those fields in a rule. However, they don't show up as items when creating conditiions. How can I get them evaluated?

Also, I noticed that when creating conditions, the items available vary depending on the scope of the condition. If a condition is available only to the task/request, some items show up. But when available in all requests, some items disappear. Can you explain why?

Btw, we are using VSM 9.1.4.

Thank you!
