Update:
I went to the Configurations tab and verify the iSCSI Software adapter (had no idea what that was thx) as well as the existence of the other 4 NICs. I was able to compare the settings of the previous (unupgraded) Host and configure the vmhba settings and make sure that the IP settings were correcct at the host for the SAN network. then I added the additional NICs to the Virtual switches under Networking and updated the Storage adapter settings. After all of this the HBA warning went away on the SAN as well.
