YOu are correct VMware View brokers the connection between the end user and the virtual dekstop in the datacenter.
The cost savings comes from not having to replace the desktop - the View client is very light and since all the processing is done on the ESXi host there is no need to refresh the desktop with another PC and if you do need to replace the desktop it can be replaced with a thin client.
Other cost saving come reduced support costs from not haveing to have complex machines sit on the user's desk - everything resodes in the datacenter.
Not to mention increased security now that all data will be store din the datacenter.
