While that is true nonetheless that is only part of it and the additional space the virtual disk now has needs to be partitioned/formatted or the existing volume expanded/extended in order to use the additional space.

Thanks for the addition. I was a bit lazy to add that part and  in at least some use cases my explanation is also already sufficient.

Down here I have found that with Windows 7/Windows 8 and Fusion 5.x the partition does actually get extended/expanded by Fusion itself already if you just grow the virtual disk.

 

I have not tested if this also happens with older versions of windows (I suspect not)
