VMware Workstation 9.0.1 and Player 5.0.1 incompatible!

Hi all,

I bought the last upgarde of VMware 9.0.1 build 894247 that came with VMware Player 5.0.1 build 894247.

Both these two tools allow me to create a VM using 1 CPU with 8 cores on my AMD FX 8150 host machine (on Windows 7 as well as on Ubuntu).

VMware Workstation 9.0.1 sample:

VMware player 5.0.1 sample:

However, if I can run such a VM within VMware Workstation 9.0.1, I can't run it with VMware Player 5.0.1 since I get an error message saying:

"This virtual machine is configured to run with 8 CPUs, but VMware Player supports only up to 4 CPUs. The virtual machine cannot be powered on."

Oops ! I guess it's what I call a "BUG" by design!

How can I create a VM using 1 CPU with 8 cores (BTW wrongly translated as 8 CPUs by VMware) with VMware Player and then not being able to power it?

I think it's a limitation "BUG" by design and I'm amazed it wasn't already corrected.

If not, why deliver VMware player with VMware Workstation?

Now, how can I use my VMs within different windows since VMware Workstation 9.0.1 doesn't allow to have multiple windows and VMware Player that can do it isn't able to run VMs using 8 cores CPUs that it allows to create?

Thank you in advance for any idea or repporting this problem to the VMware Development Team.

Cheers.
