I have been running ESXi 5.1 on a TZ77B BioStar motherboard in a system I got from a NewEgg deal of the day. It's not high end; it's not server grade; but it's a lot better than what I had running before. I've been running for a few months now, and was digging through to see how to get a little mroe performance out of it. That's when I noticed that my NIC, a Realtek RTL8111E which should be 10/100/1000, is coming up as 10mbit full-duplex only. It's been working pretty solidly for this time, so I'm not concerned about compatibility, so much as having it configured correctly for performance.
I have tried forcing the card to be 1000mbit full duplex and it just tells me it's running at 10mbit despite my configuration. Is there any way to upgrade the driver? Is there more to the settings than I am aware of? Can anyone tell me if I can make this thing run at the 1000mbit it's capable of in Windows, or do I need to disable it and buy something new?
Edit: I did note that ESXi lists this as "Realtek Realtek 8168 Gigabit Ethernet". Driver is "r8168". Configured Speed, Duplex is either "Auto Negotiate" or "1000 Mb, Full Duplex". Actual Speed, Duplex is always "10 Mb, Full Duplex".
