On our ESX 4.x hosts, we currently use 'Fixed' path selection for the storage. However, every LUN currently has 4 FC paths and 2 iSCSI paths. We typically only use the iSCSI in the event of a fiber failure. By any chance, is it possible to setup RoundRobin path selection in a way that only the FC paths are selected and the iSCSI paths are ignored unless every other FC path is unavailable?
It seems like such a waste to have these other FC connections without some sort of load balance mechanism. It would be far too tedious and time consuming to go to each lun of each blade and select different paths as a way to manually load balance.
On a related note, is there any reason we should avoid round robin path selection?
Thanks!
