I was trying to run that command to fix the Virtual disk error per a KB I found, not to resize the drive.
JSYK... I replied with the info I did as you explicitly and specifically said "I am wanting to increase the size of the virtual hard disk for my VM but I am not able to do so." and I though you were confused, however no big deal.
