I think if you could have just initially followed the directions in the the "Activate Windows 8 Pro Upgrade" section in Windows 8 Upgrade: clean install possible? it would have work for you as it has for countless others doing a clean install with upgrade media. 
Although I do understand you didn't realize you had upgrade media and I'm not sure why one of the others that tried to help didn't point you to this as I've already posted this many times before in threads with Windows 8 WPA issues and would though for sure one of them would have mentioned it, oh well.
