Workstation 9.0 resets host system

I have been running Workstation 9.0.1 for a couple of months with no issues on a Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit system. VM operating systems of Vista, and XP. Host system is Dell XPS835T, core i7 920@2.67GHz with 12gig memory, and ATI Radeon 4850 Graphics card. With Workstation opened on host (but all VMs in suspended state) there was a power failure. After rebooting, starting Workstation caused the host (Vista) machine to immediately reset and reboot. No BSOD, just a straight corruption of the display and start rebooting. I then tried to uninstall workstation but the uninstall would fail after the display of the splash screen with same symptoms (no BSOD). After searching I went through the manual uninstall procedures found in the vmware forums and was able to perform a reinstall of 9.0.  Starting Workstation and letting sit at the main home screen with no VMs running, causes the screen to corrupt and reset the host. I have read that 9.0.1 corrects some issues with Ivy Bridge but I can't get that point to update since starting 9.0 resets the host computer. The Windows Event logs show no errors.

Can someone give me some more debugging suggestions (logs I can post, etc) that might point me to a solution?

I have updated the drivers for the ATI card from their website after the initial failure with no difference in symptoms. Here's my system specs:
