Change root password on ESXi 5 host in vSphere Cluster

I would like to change the root password on my ESXi 5 hosts that are in a vSphere cluster. Can I just go into the console & change the password? Any gotchas?

I found the article below that says the host "may" need to be reconnected. Not sure what would cause the "may" to come into play.
