The only additional things that I can think of are (assuming that you haven't already tried them):
- If you have VMWare tools installed, try uninstalling
- Turn off VMCI
- Maybe try different settings for the Virtualization engine (under settings->processor) i.e. try different modes, or binary translation options.
- Odd as it sounds, maybe 3D acceleration (if it's something to do with MFC library accessing video calls)
If it turns out to be a vmware "core" issue, I hope they give it high priority because it would have the potential of breaking applications that should run in a vm (all else being equal).
Could it be some "corner case" a known or unknown bug in the CPU?
What CPU are you running? (Intel, AMD? and what model is it?)
