converter 5.01 + Ubuntu 12.04 under Xen - unable to connect

I'm attempting to migrate my Ubuntu server from Xen to esxi 5.1.

I've installed Converter server 4.01 on the Ubuntu host, and Converter 5.01 on my desktop.

I've tried connected to the machine through just SSH (converter > remote machine > Linux, etc) but I get the following error:

Then I tried to connect to the vmconverter server 4.01 installed on the host, no dice either:

I have also made sure that allowed PermitRootLogin yes on the host, and I enabled 'root' on Ubuntu as well (can log in via SSH without issue).

Can anyone help me out here?  I've been searching for hours on here and google without much luck to my specific problem.
